Developed by Catholic Charities and managed by Christopher Community, Barrett Dewitt Apartments was created to provide affordable, independent living for seniors 62 and older. Located at 1400 Kinne Street in East Syracuse the 40-unit complex continues to serve as a vital resource for older adults in Central New York.

The anniversary celebration featured food, cake, gifts, and shared memories. Among the highlights was a special tribute to three original residents — Joyce Pohopek, Lucy Karim, and Sue DiLella — who have called Barrett Dewitt home since the beginning.

“It’s been a joy to watch this community grow and thrive over the years,” said Carolyn Nojaim, Property Manager of Barrett Dewitt Apartments. “We’ve built more than a housing complex — we’ve built a family. Our residents are what make this place so special.”

Jeffrey Eysaman, President and CEO of Christopher Community, Inc., added, “Barrett Dewitt is a shining example of our mission in action — to provide quality, affordable housing for seniors. Celebrating 25 years is a testament to the care, stability, and connection that this community represents.”

Built with support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Barrett Dewitt Apartments has provided safe, welcoming, and income-based housing for hundreds of seniors over the past two and a half decades.
